Sunday Run Day

Week 1 of marathon training is complete!

(only 16 more weeks to go!)  😉

Saturday started with a solid 5 mile run, early in the morning.  My 5 mile runs are always along the same route, this one was no different.  Ended up with 5.12 miles at at pace of 9:04/mile.

Sunday’s run was beautiful!  The kids were going to their grandparent’s house for breakfast.  Of course, when my husband and I get a chance for a “date,” we go running!  And what a lovely run it was!

Seriously beautiful, right?!

For this round of marathon training, I am most excited about the fact that I’ve talked my husband into running the marathon with me!  This will be his first, and I know he is going to rock it!  I think the hardest part about training for my first marathon was that I did it all by myself.  The long runs, while it was nice to have that quiet time, got pretty boring.  I think it would have been so much fun to have someone to run them with!  Perhaps, the Grandparents would like to have a regularly scheduled Sunday brunch with the kids for all our long runs..?!  😉

Anyways, it was a great long run.  we went 9.1 miles at a 9:48/mile pace.  And I had the very rare opportunity of having someone there to take a picture of me!  Here’s to one of the few posts that has an actual picture that’s not a selfie!

I even kind of look like a runner!  🙂

We brought along a thermos of coffee, so after drinking about a gallon of water each, we sat on a blanket and had some coffee and enjoyed what was left of our quiet morning.   I’m pretty sure my Sunday morning couldn’t have gone any better!

How was your weekend?  Did you get your long run in?

Okay,  now onto my plan for week 2!

Monday:  Cross

Tuesday:  3 miles

Wednesday:  5 miles

Thursday:  3 miles

Friday:  Rest

Saturday:  5 miles

Sunday:  6 miles

Hope this is the beginning of a fabulous week for you all!!

Rest Day! (or, The Day I am Jealous of Everyone I See Running).

It’s been a good running week!

The past few months have come with some achy hips and knee pains, so I’ve been feeling pretty discouraged… and tried not to overdo it.

However, last week and this week, things have been feeling like they should again!  There’s been virtually no pain, I’ve enjoyed my runs, and they’ve been speedier than I’ve ran since my marathon.  I am sure I won’t be able to keep that kind of pace up once I have more miles per week, (and treadmill runs generally seem to be faster anyway), but I’ll take it!

Tuesday’s Plan: 5 miles.

Wednesday’s Plan: 3 miles.

A week like this is just what I needed to jump start my training!  Although,  I’ve got to admit, I’m a little more than disappointed that today is a rest day.  I really, really want to run today and keep this going!  But, I won’t!  I’ll be good.  🙂

Definitely looking forward to my long run this weekend!

Anyone else get anxious over rest days?!

Training Plan

17 Weeks!

Sounds like a long way away…  But its time to jump in and “officially” start training.   This time around, I think I will go back to the Hal Higdon training plan.  It’s an 18 week plan, so I’ll be starting at week two.

I used Hal Higdon with my first half marathon with a lot of success!

So, for this week…

Monday: Cross training

Tuesday: 3 miles

Wednesday: 5 miles

Thursday: 3 miles

Friday: Rest

Saturday: 5 miles

Sunday: 9 miles

Today, I hit the gym for my 3 miles.  I’m not a fan of treadmill running, but having three kids home on Summer vacation, its a necessary evil…  (and you’ll never hear me complain about air conditioning!!)

Today’s run was 3.58 miles, average pace was 7min 50sec.  I’m usually much slower, but when it’s three miles, I need to make the most of it!

Yay for being back on a training plan!  I tend to get lazy when I don’t have a goal!  😉

Happy Running Everyone!

Hello Everyone!!

Here it is!  My first blog post!

I started this blog a couple of months ago, but I’ve never actually posted anything.  I just didn’t know how to start.  (Still don’t).

So, here goes…  I figure there’s no time like the present and I might as well jump right in!

This is me.

I am a runner.   In fact, I am a marathoner.  (Never thought I would be able to say that!)

I ran my first 10K in May 2013, one year later in May 2014 I ran The Flying Pig Marathon, and can’t wait to run another!  So this is my journey into my second marathon!  Training starts now.  17 Weeks until the big day!

There, my first post is done!  No more pressure, right?!  🙂
